Aside from being a prominent cultural figure and key to the changing political atmosphere of American Samoa, the late HC Aumoeualogo Te’o J Fuavai was a powerful tool of change when it came to developing the sport of rugby locally.
He began as a rugby player for the Eastern District – leading to him becoming president of the Eastern District Rugby Club.
His push and drive to develop rugby led to the creation of the American Samoa Rugby Union where he served as ASRU president for a number of years. It was during his time that the ASRU became fully affiliated with the International Rugby Board (IRB).
He passed away in 2019 and not only leaves behind a family of talented children and grandchildren – he also leaves behind a legacy of rugby that many of the us in American Samoa will see in years to come.
